| Is one week vacation for a one year contract normal or is it ok to negotiate two weeks? |

You shouldn't have to negotiate two weeks. You should demand it, even if you have a degree in basket weaving, no experience as you lived at home all day with mom and are butt ugly. Seriously, no!. THere are literally hundreds of better jobs, unless they are offering something WELL beyond normal contracts. |

| In fact, if you actually read the labor law, the minimum should be more than that. I don't remember what it is now, but I pulled out the labor law when my bf negotiated his last contract and I think we got him 12 or 14 based on that. |

Quote from the Korean labor act:
Article 59 (Annual Paid Leave)
(1) An employer shall grant 10 days� leaves with pay to workers
who have offered work without an absence throughout a year and 8
days� leaves with pay to those who have registered more than 90
percent of attendance during one year.
(1) An employer shall grant 15 days� paid leave to worker
who has registered more than 80 percent of attendance during
one year. <Amended by Act No. 6974, Sep. 15, 2003>
7 days are NOT enough. |

| Of course, if you work at an institute, they always work that, 'at the discretion of the institute,' clause in. Meaning that they won't sign off on a proper vacation if it interferes with their monthly schedules, particularly during the winter and summer breaks when most people would like to get out of dodge. Institute employment is rock bottom of the barrel. |
