I just finished two "after-school" classes. The grades are 1st to 3rd and then 4th to 6th, the levels of ability amongst the students are extremely mixed. I suggested dividing the classes based upon ability and that definitely won't fly. Games are good but because the levels are so mixed, half the class struggles and the other half falls asleep depending on the focus.
I also get to suggest a textbook for teacher training. They all state that they want to focus on conversation and dialogue. I expressed the opinion that as university graduates they all probably have a decent understanding of English grammar but bad pronunciation as they are consistently reinforced with Konglish, etc. I also said that dialogue is easy to find. Just about any novel or TV show can be reduced to a script which is usually available for free online.
I really want to do well here, the English program is very basic and in dire need of some revamping.
Thanks for any suggestions. |
