I thought I had seen the worst at this place, I thought I had gotten used to all my classes and what to do with them.

Then suddenly this past week all hell seems to have broken loose. Classes that used to be Ok are suddenly exercises in zookeeping.

Is it something to do with the end of summer vacation, or perhaps the water?

Or am I just waking up to the reality of how things really are? I've just managed to numb it out until now. Confused

No point to this really, just more incessant whining from a haggie slave.

Hope your week was better than mine.

Cheers

I thin it has to do with the fact that these kids just has some kind of Camp for 3 days.

The kids i have under my wings normally don't make many mistakes, yesterday was hell. I constantly had to correct their Konglish.

very weird indeed.

They're not subdued by the humidity anymore...

Worse than being half-wild I've had students openly pretending to be black with each other ie hip-hop.How any asian could think they could be convincing at this is beyond me.

Especially when they're sporting a 1980s mullet.

Mine have been awful. I think it's because it's the beginning of the new term.

No, I learned the first week is easing them back into things, which I did last week. This week was the same as normal.

I don't want to sound like a prat but really the power is yours as to how the kids behave in class. I had to learn this the hard way but once you get the hang of it it's pretty smooth sailing. I work at a public school with as many as 30 kids per class some classes, just don't take any funk from them!

I've had the same thing!!! First grade boys at my middle school are suddenly running around going "Yo! I like big....da da-da-da da da." I'm assuming this is Sir-mix-a-lots "baby got back?"

Do you think it would damage their young naive minds if we had an entire lesson on the song and its meaning?

I did summer camp, where the kids were all very high level and really nice, and then went on vacation for a month - so going back to normality was a real kick up the arse for me. It was like I was a newbie again. But the kids were fine generally - happy to see me and attentive and stuff. But I had forgotten how shlte a lot of their English is and how shy some of them can be.

And yes, I experienced "what up man?" about 10 mins ago. What the hell's that all about?

Five minutes ago I passed four girls hanging out a window chanting "Go sista ________[my surname], go sista ________" (I'm a guy).

Yes, it must be catching on.

A lot of them seem to have been to the "hairsalon" of late.

Main styles of course are the mullet, the boy puppy tousled look and the "Wispy Cleopatra".

The girls on the other hand just tie it up with a hair band.

LOL Laughing

My kids are a bit strange this week. They are normally quite subdued. Except for one class, they are all motormouths this week. I think it might be to do with the fact that today was their annual fitness assessment and they were looking forward to their sort of day off.

Not subdued by the humidity anymore. Dave's is more of a zoo now, too.

The kids have extended their middle fingers towards oneanother, but there has been nothing major (fighting) that has taken place.

When that would occur, I simply told the kids that making a gesture that they don't fully understand makes them look silly. That generally took care of that problem.
