Steve Irwin dead

The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, has died after he was stung by a stingray off the far north Queensland coast.

The ambulance service says he was diving near Low Isles off Port Douglas when the incident happened around 11am AEST.

A helicopter carrying paramedics flew to the island, but he died from a stingray barb to the heart.

His next of kin are being flown from Brisbane to Cairns this afternoon.

I'd say that that man lived longer than he should have based on his profession. He also seemed to get a little too close too many poisonous animals. Still, he was a good friend of the environment and he will be missed.

RIP, Steve

That's an awful pity. He made me laugh so much. Yet he often showed genuine feelings for the natural world. Great guy. I feel sorry for Terri.

from what my local news was saying he took a stingray barb to the chest.

I think that can go on the list of terrible ways to die.

There are places where you can go swimming with stingray, like in the Carribean. I wanted to do that someday, but now, maybe not....

That's too bad- he was young, with young kids. =(

'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin killed

Australian environmentalist and television personality Steve Irwin has died during a diving accident.
Mr Irwin, 44, was killed by a stingray barb to the chest while he was filming an underwater documentary in Queensland's Great Barrier Reef.

Paramedics from the nearby city of Cairns rushed to treat him at the scene but were unable to save him.

Mr Irwin was known for his television show The Crocodile Hunter and his work with native Australian wildlife.

Really sorry to hear this news. I'm sure his wife and daughter are grief stricken.

Terrible ways to die? Awesome way to die! Give me the wrath of Nature over a slow and lingering death from cancer any day...

tragedy, thats very upsetting, I loved his show. The guy although a liitle off his rocker at times really personafied what it means to live life to the fullest.

He had a passion and went for it, did this world a whole lot of good, its too bad that more influential people on this planet don't share his views on the environment.

As someone else mentioned at least he died doing what he loved.

RIP

wildlife conservation is the biggest loser today besides his family and friends. Sad
