For those of you with children (or children on the way), what health insurance is your kid covered by? |

Korean national health insurance.... get them put on your card.
Our baby was covered under her mom's ARC number for the first 30 days, then she had her own ARC and her number was added onto the family card.
Not sure about new babies with a Korean parent. They don't get an ARC but are registed at the Gu office. |

National health care only covers the bare essentials. I need to purchase a plan that covers major medical, life, etc. |

Then you should have asked that in your OP. Your question was, "For those of you with children (or children on the way), what health insurance is your kid covered by?"
You didn't ask if there were alternative insurance plans available.
The answer to THAT is for the most part, none here in Korea.
IF your wife is Korean OR attached to the US military then you have additional and suplimental options but now that Korean insurance is mandatory they will NOT (read the policy fine print) cover that portion of the costs that are covered by NHIC.
If you had your official residence in another country (like your home country) then you could obtain insurance from your home country but by living as an expat you will find that they may deny coverage after the fact. |

My wife is Korean and we've discovered that the Korean Postal Service, of all places, has one of the best deals going on insurance. This from several of my wife's friends. So that's what we're going with. Guess I answered my own question. |
