Crying or Very sad

I had the unfortunate pleasure for working at Park's English School in Jeju City. I am writing this entry for the sole purpose to warn people that this job posting is inaccurate and indeeds provides false information.

This is not a good place to work and the director is in a financial crisis. He's opened a new school and is financially strapped.

If you work here you will NOT be paid on time. In addition, you will have to ASK for your pay each month and each month a certain "fee" is deducted for reasons currently unknown.

Mr. Baak is not an ethical man.

DO NOT WORK HERE.

All the best on finding a good job - there are good hogwans out there.

2 Full-time Teachers Needed in Jeju City

Posted By: Park's English School <[email protected]>
Date: Tuesday, 29 August 2006, at 9:16 a.m.

Park's English School in Jeju city is currently seeking two full-time English instructors for an immediately position and another late September Start.

About the school:
Park's English School is one of the largest and oldest English schools in Jeju city. It is independently owned and run and therefore has none of the problems common to franchised schools. We currently have eight foreign staff who are both very friendly and professional. Our students tend to be among the brightest on the island.

Your qualifications:
Native speaker.
A four-year degree from a recognized English language university (must be able to produce an original diploma, as well as official transcripts for Visa processing) Some experience teaching English is preferred but not essential.

Applicants currently located in South Korea are desirable to enable a face-to face interview.

What we offer:
Salary range is 1.9 to 2.1 million won per month, based on qualifications. Paid on time
Round-trip airfare paid in the case of a 12-month contract.
Fully-furnished housing provided. Accommodations are far better than those commonly given to foreign teachers.
50% health insurance covered by employer.
One month's salary paid as severance bonus upon the completion of 12-month contract.

The job:
The contract is based upon a thirty-hour work week, with some preparation time. You will be required to teach students of various levels, aged from 7 to 16 years old. No split shift.

About the island:
Jeju is a beautiful and friendly place where you can enjoy clean air, water, and wonderful scenery. Jeju island is so well known for its beauty that you can easily explore more on the web sites. At the center of the island is Halla Mountain, which is the highest in South Korea, a defunct volcano. Hallasan National park provides many hiking trails and various other recreational activities and the island is dotted with dozens of gorgeous beaches. Jeju City is big enough to provide all of the conveniences that you are used to, but small enough to make getting away very easy.

If you are interested in working for us, and if you are serious about teaching, please email your resume and a recent photo to me, Mr. Baak at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you.

Why would you put up with not being paid on time? The second time that happened sit down and explain the concept of "Until I get paid, I will not teach." If he fires you so much the better. Get a new job there are plenty of them out there.

Asking for one's pay is not a undue hardship.

Why would you allow this fee to be deducted? Again sit down with the director (get a translator or use a dictionary) and get a specific breakdown of what fee or fees are being deducted and the purpose. Don't let him try and weasel out of it. Insist on knowing.
