Hi,

I know this sounds naive but Im fresh in Korea and just been sent an e-mail by a 'model agency' re 'extra work' - commercials, fashion catalogues etc. They'd seen my photo on a website and taken my e-mail address from there.

Ive checked the website, looks OK. But is this a popular scam there with re to new foreigners?

Thanks Laughing

There's a steady demand for foreigners to ham it up for Korean TV and advertising.

If they offer a concrete hours and payment package then, why not? Try it out.

HOWEVER, this might create visa issues. If you're here as a tourist or an English teacher, you need special permission to accept extra work.

I'm not sure, but "modelling" is something I've always wanted to do. I hate how models are always stereotyped as being dumb!

The traditional modeling scam in North America is trying to convince the starry eyed model wannabe that he/she needs expensive head shots and lessons.

If they want any money up front, forget it. Real agencies collect money from the client.

Done it (modeling and movies). It can be a fun experience and, yes, it does pay, but the hours are unpredictable so you'll probably have to turn down five offers for every one you're able to take. And, as above, watch yourself on the visa issue. You might think twice if you're not here on an F-2/F-4 visa.

I got an offer an offer to model as a professor of medicine. I was supposed to wear a suit and a lab coat and go to a classroom somewhere.

be careful. i was an extra in a movie recently and the agent who got me the part said that immigration had called them to see if they were keeping it legal (ie using only F-2's). now they only hire F-2's ........difficult to find a lot of women with free time with F-2's though.
