Want to get a 300GB 3.5" hard disk to run from a media server.

What's a good reliable brand out there?

Also, I'm not familiar with all the technological terms they use to describe their performance/reliability.

Seagate all the way, all the time.

Any of THESE Seagate 7200.9 NCQ drives will do you just fine. That site is a good place to shop from as well if you can get a Korean friend to help you out (you can get prices similar to Yongsan there).

NOTE: it would be better to go with the SATA2 version of those drives rather than EIDE, unless, of course, your system doesn't support SATA2.

Hey thanks.

My new server only supports IDE hard drives. Are SATA2 drives faster?

I'd rather reliability than performance for streaming media.

The short answer is, yes. The maximum bandwidth is higher for SATA2, so your potential to hit higher speeds is also better.

Actually, the short answer is not really. Not even SATA2 Raptors hit speeds of over 133 MB/s, which is the maximum bandwidth of IDE. Is it more convenient to use SATA cables over IDE? Sure. Are they faster? Eh, the difference is negligible.
