After about 3 months of making sold progress Oblivion crashed on me and wouldn't restart. I trawled the internet for a solution and found many people had had the same problem and they had to do re-installs. Fair enough.

I had the saved game files so I wasn't too worried. Just re-install the game and load the saved games.

But when I started up the new install there were no saved games! Nothing.

I found the saved games folder and found them to be a bunch of .bak and .ess files. I don't know how to use them.

Any ideas?

I really don't want to start Oblivion all over again!! arrrgggh!! That would be a nightmare!

hmmmmm, moving the old .sav files into the new save location should resolve the problem. Let me know.

Are you playing it on a XboX 360? Because it automatically updates on Microsoft Live.

If you still have the old save files, the default folder is "my documents>my games>oblivion>saves"

Alternately, if you tell me where you are at in the game, I could always check my saves and give you one that is around that point. You could send me a PM with information about which guilds you are in and how far you have progressed, as well as how far you have gotten in the main storyline (an email address would also be helpful). My character is a femail warrior, btw. I can't remember what sign she was born under and all that jive.

Tried that. I suspect I have to reassign my .bak files and .ess files as a different kind of file. Still working that out.

Thanks Jazblanc. I may have to take you up on that. There's no way I'm going to play the game from scratch.

Another alternative is to spend an hour or two setting up the character and then cheat my way to the end of each quest. There's an instant "go to end of quest" cheat. That would still take me at least 5 hours in total to go through all that.

dang. well...good luck with it. I have the game but haven't begun to play it; I've been busy with school and work.
