| I downloaded Software to burn downloaded movies and tv shows on to a blank dvd. When I try to use the software, it keeps telling me to insert the blank dvd, even though I have already. Do I need to do anything to the blank disc so that it can be read? |

This may sound like a stupid question.... do you have a DVD burner or just a combo drive (DVD reader - CD R/RW burner).
I had a friend recently who had a combo drive in his computer and thought he could burn DVDs but he was mistaken. He could only read DVDs and burn CDs.
Having asked that, I personally use cyberlink DVD solution with power producer. It burns at 4.7 or 8 gig densities (assuming your hardware can burn at those densities) and has a burn rate of 8X (this may be a hardware factor). |

| I believe I have just the combo drive. I didn't realize until now. |

Ah, a newbie question.
I have an 8x DVD writer on my notebook but the last time I tried to burn a DVD it only did it at 4x. I am using Nero and 4x was the highest it could burn. Is this a software limitation or what?
I'm looking at Cyberlink now. |

| Your burn speed is also related to the quality of disks you are using. Check your disks and see what speed rating they are. Also, if you buy high quality disks, you may be able to burn at a higher speed rating than is indicated on your disks. I got a 50 pack of Sony disks rated at 8X recently. When I went to burn a disk, I let Nero do a speed check and it ended up burning at 16X, with no errors on the disk (that I could find.) |

| They are 8x DVDs, it would be a hell of a lot faster if I could burn at that speed instead of 4x. Oh well. |
