I'm planning to go to Japan during the week of Chusok. I'm also planning to take a mountain bike there to travel around. Has anyone ever taken a bike on a plane or ferry to Fukuoka? How much does it cost to take a bike on a plane and ferry? |

I brought a bike with me from Canada when I went to Japan. The airlines don't charge as long as the bike is included as one of your two pieces of luggage. But it has to be in either a bike bag or in a bike box. If you don't have a bag (never seen one in Korea) you can go to your local bike shop and ask for an empty box.
Don't know about the ferry though. When I took the ferry (no bike) many people had dozens of boxes so the charge can't be too high. But if you take the Beetle (hydrofoil) you might be charged a lot as it doesn't have nearly as much space. |
