Hey,

So I'm flying home at the end of the month to Toronto, but can opt for a layover in Vancouver from about 11:00 to 23:00. I'd like to go out and see the city but haven't been there in more than a decade.

I'd appreciate it if home grown Vancouver people can suggest where I might have a great mini experiene of the city. Of course I'd like to hit Stanley Park and I remember Gas Town for some reason. Any other ideas? I'd like to see the mountains and the ocean, you know all that stuff that makes the city look so great in the postcards. Any happening area for dinner or drinks?

Also, any idea how much a cab to/from the airport would be and how long it takes? (to/from downtown area)

Burnaby-born though Vancouver Island-raised B.C. boy here! Let me recommend...

From the airport take a bus to UBC, the beautiful university grounds and nearby nudist Wreck beach, worth a gander any time of year.

Then from there got to English Bay and walk toward downtown. You gotta do Granville island!

I suggest you don't waste your precious time going to the mountains, or the overhyped expensive-to-enter Capilano Suspension bridge. Stick to the core and enjoy!

Took a cab back in May from the airport to downtown (near BC place) it was $35, I believe and took about 30 minutes.

Check out Capilano Canyon or Grouse Mountain for some good views and nice fresh air. If you take the tram to the top of Grouse, you can do some nice short hikes from there. Of course, walk around the Seawall and get some Gelato and good eats on Denman.

If you're into Veggie Food, the NAAM on 4th is a classic.
