For me Pantera hands down. While tracks such as Slayers' Raining blood stand stringly among metal classics, Dimebags' god like riff writing ability has no equal past or present. |

interesting forum to put this in... move? mods?
anyway, each member of Pantera could single handedly kill Slayer as a band. they're that good. any doubts of how good Dime was? listen to their cover of 'Planet Caravan'. his guitar work blows Iommi out of the water, and that's saying something if you ask me. |

I agree. Musically you can't compare the two. Pantera would rip them a new one. Back in the mid to late nineties I saw around eleven pantera shows in the the south of the us. Those guys f'n tear it up! RIP Dimebag. Philip Anselmo is a badass. |

Firstly, Dime (peace be upon him) said that 'Reign in Blood' was his second faveorite metal album. The first was 'Kill em all'.
Second, why is this the wrong forum? It's pretty 'off-topic' if you ask me.
Then, there's the totally different styles. Sure, they're both Metal, but Pantera have no problem with ballads (or at least heavy ballads - see 'This Love', Cemetery Gates, Planet Caravan, 10s, Floods, Hollow). Slayer don't do that kind of thing.
Pantera - heavy and extreme though they are - are pretty much all styles of Metal rolled into one band. Slayer, by contrast, have their own unique thing, which they invented, and do to death.
Very difficult to decide. Pantera had one (unbelievable) guitarist, Slayer had two. Pantera had the best drummer of all time and an outspoken, drunk, f***ed-up singer who made 10-minute rants on stage. Ever seen Slayer live? Tom Araya is positively articulate - a smart, charming guy.
It's impossible to decide, sorry, but I'll vote Pantera because of their performances of 'This Love' and 'Cemetery Gates' on their 'Live 101 Proof' album. Phil could REALLY sing - he was amazing when he put his mind to it. Slayer - although I love them - are very one-dimensional. Punters need to buy Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss, whereas it's best to own all Pantera's CDs. |

You Tube - of course - has numerous Pantera gems.
Type in Phil Anselmo/Dimebag/Pantera and you've numorous vids well worth a watch.
significant is this one (filmed in Seoul - Pantera live in Seoul - Phil does a Nazi salute and shouts "white power"......allegedly). http://youtube.com/watch?v=DC9oPCrGus0
Is Phil a racist? I don't know. But he's certainly a smack-head, as other vids reveal. If you love Pantera, it's fascinating stuff. |

Hell, there's nothing wrong with white power in Korea. |

Almost apples and oranges don't you think? People purchased Pantera albums to get a mix of metal and musianship, and bought Slayer for the brutality. Two differnet things in my book. If I had to pick, gimmie Slayer. Something has to be said for a band that only got harder and harder through the early 90's while most of their peers from the early 80's mellowed (Metallica, Megadeth). |
