Well, I just started at a new school this week and all is well, but once a week, I have to teach a 2 hour special class. I can teach whatever I want, and they will give me supplies, but I have to think of 16 ideas, and after a whole week of thinking about what I am going to teach this year, my brain has seized at 10 ideas. Let me describe this class a little. It has grade 1-5 students (mostly younger) and the students have varying levels, from very, very low, to what an average grade 4/5 student knows. If you could help me out with some new ideas, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm not a teacher yet, but do this:

Form groups and come up with games. But when you form groups, grab about one older kid and team him/her up with a few younger ones. That way, the older ones will (hopefully) be teaching the younger ones.

You could have the class look around the room and write down as many nouns as they see. Spend maybe 10 minutes.

You could play a song a couple of times and have them write down as many adjectives as they can to describe the song.

Quiz them on prepositions. See who can come up with the most in, maybe, 10 minutes.

Write a page of words and have the kids fill in the opposites. Write "tall" and they write "short." Write down "skinny" and they write "fat."

At the end, you could give a prize to the team with the most points.

That would eat up some time.

All those are good ideas, but I think you are overestimating my students, or I just wasn't really clear. Of the 14 kids, 10, or so, of them still give strange looks at anything beyond 'Hello'. For example, I had to teach a few of them just the words for 'mom' and 'dad'. I like your ideas though.

Good idea: So far, I have only taught one class.

My first lesson focused on the family. We learned the members of the family and extended family a little bit. There was more to it, but that was the general idea.

Now, I also have planned: (With each of these I also teach a new sentence structure. EX. Winter is cold, etc.)

Seasons and learning vocabulary

Telling time

Body parts and clothing

Animals and adjectives

I am going to do a thanksgiving class and a Christmas class where we make cards or something.

Anyways, there are a few ideas, and I have a few other I am thinking of, but don't know if I will do them because I don't have any real good ideas for them.

Hi A
What about prepositions? You could link it to an obstacle course with classroom objects - go under the chair, over the desk etc. Also preposition hide an seek - 1 student hides something whilst everyone has their backs turned and then they have to ask before looking "Is it on/under/behind...?". Depending on whether you have internet access there's a good UK site for kids www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/index.shtml (even if you don't have the internet in the classroom it's good for ideas).
Hope that's some help.

I like that idea, I think I can do that, I will save it for later on when they get a little more vocab. Talk to you later.

Before you teach time, it might be a good idea to review numbers. If 1-12 is too easy, go for 1-20.

Greetings and farewells, colours, days of the week, sports, food, classroom objects, countries of the world, transportation, weather, planets/space, basic geography...

So, essentially, you're looking for x-number of topics?

Health and sickness
Food
Hobbies
Opposites
Weather
Festivals
Transport
Jobs
Animals

Look at my link below and go to 'resources'. As you are not using a text book, you will find lots of photocopiable worksheets on differing themes there.
