Funny happening at my school last week.
They had a "fire drill" but only with teachers on Friday telling them how to use the extinguishers etc. (I was not privy as it was for Korean teachers only). The students were for some reason not included.
Well, during the 5th class the power went out. No big deal, right? Well the co-teacher walked down the hall and saw that the electrical box for the whole building was on fire! Hence the power failure.
So they evacuated the building to the playground with the students right? NO!! They kept on with the classes despite the toxic fumes of burning wires and plastic insullation. I asked if the next classes were cancelled, to which they said "NO", as students were walking past the site of the fire and trampling through the extinguisher dust, wearing masks like it was cool and nothing should be done. No firetruck ever appeared and we had no power for the rest of the day. But, business as usual!!
I'm sorry, but in Canada the school would have been evacuated. I asked a teacher about an alarm and he said...it doesn't work!!! What?? So you just had a fire drill and we had a fire, but there is no fire alarm? That's right.
Nice drill!!
I just shake my head at the lack of safety accepted here. |
