Just toying around with ideas for the future. Since I've spent all the money I've earned here either on bills back home or travelling back home, I've got nothing saved up. So, I'm considering leasing a house. I'd never even heard of that until I visited my best friend in Vegas over the summer.

Has anyone here done it?

I get the basic gist of it--you lock in today's price but agree to actually go through the process of buying it 3-5 years down the road--but I'm curious how it actually works. Do you need any money up front? Do you pay for the appraiser & engineer like you would if you were buying? Do you get a mortgage or just pay the owner/developer? What happens to your credit if you don't follow through with the purchase?

Aren't you from Alaska? What can it possibly cost to build your own igloo?

The bad news in this post is the indication that you are leaving us. Say it ain't so.

Well, what with energy rates, the cost of refridgeration during those long summer days has become prohibitive. Damn global warming!!

Not just yet. But, at the end of my contract next July, it will have been 4 years, and home is looking mighty nice. The precious pictures my sister just sent of my beautiful nephews in my parents' brand new home aren't helping any.

My problem is that I haven't looked at my finances lately. When I sit down to do that tomorrow, I'll stop looking homeward. Laughing

...nice to know I'd be missed, though. Wink
