Hey, I'm wondering who pays for all the visa related fees? Like the shipping of the documents, the photos, the application fees, etc.? I guess my question is, does it have to be in the employment contract or is it just normally covered by the school and/or employee?

If you are working for a hakwon it is negotiable.

If you are hired by a POE then their POLICY is to NOT pay for document shipping and associated visa costs before you enter Korea.

In 100% of cases I have dealt with, the teacher has paid all shipping of docs fees and all visa application fees.
Most schools will only pay airfares and hotel stays. Sometimes you may get spending money for a Japan run.
If you find a school that will pay the US$60 visa application fee for you they may be ok to work for. I think all schools should pay this, but I have never heard of any doing it.

At the school I work for, if we hire a teacher while they are out of the country, the teacher pays for all visa fees. If we hire someone in country, and have to send them to Japan, the school will pay for all incurred cost of the visa run, including money for food and hotel.

But every hogwon is different.

Yeah, depends on school. Ask them who foots the bill before you commit because the costs can add up. Some will refund every single cent. Others will expect you to pay for everything. This time I even had to pay for those stamps to get my ARC card...bah humbug. A quality employer should offer to pay, though.

I barely paid for anything. I had to pay for my transcripts.......twotimes over........stupid brother. But other than that.......I sent my stuff to Korea and it was all taken care of...all I had to do was send my passport to the Korean Consulate in Vancouver and pick it up on my way to the airport....quite cheap...and no visa run.

I've always had to pay for my own visa application fees.

Yeah, I think I was mistaken about the visa fees. You're going to have to pay for that.
