So I'm sitting here working on some super secret stuff in my headquarters, and I hear a clatter arise in the hall. I recognize the warbling as drunken attempts at goodbye, then wait. Here it comes.

HHHHHCCCCCCHHHTTTTTTT PTTOO!!

That's it. I learned how to say "why are you spitting in the halls!!!??" in Korean for just this occasion. I sprang up and out the door, which nearly collided with the offender. The words coursed my tongue, hit my lips and paused -- I know this guy! He's a fellow soldier in the EFL campagin, with whom I've been on friendly terms.

He seemed surprised at my sudden appearance and asked what's the illi, ya? So, I told him. He felt a bit embarrassed, as did I. We made a moment's small talk. My major in college, where my girlfriend lives. Usual stuff. Then parted ways.

I went back in, and a few minutes later the doorblaster blasts. I grudgingly open the door to see him there again, dressed down in a polo, shorty soccer shorts and a slippers. This time he's armed with a half-empty bottle of Korean wine (복분자) and.. two individually wrapped slices of processed cheese.

Well..

What would you have done in that situation?

I'm looking at two more hours of work tonight at least, and it's nearly 2 am.

A strange peace offering, sure, but rejection always stings.

Q.

So you know what "we" would have done. Personally, I would have him clean up his spit, tell him to bring a fresh bottle and offered the cheese to a homeless man.
