I'm going to quit my job next week. My contract says I have to give 35 days notice. Can my boss say, "No, you don't need to give that many days, just don't come back after Chuseok," because they don't want to pay for my vacation?? Or are they obligated to pay for all 35 days of my notice, if I haven't done anything wrong, and I don't agree to cutting the notice short? & the 5 days I get off for Chuseok should count as part of the 35 days notice, right?
Thanks for any input, Oh Wise ESLCafe-ers! |

| Most directors will want you to stay on untill they have at least found a replacement. Don't expect a full paycheck if you have been there less than six months. More details of your situation would be very useful actually. |

Actually, if you work in a hakwon you can probably expect your boss to try to cheat you out of every won you earn between now and your last day.
It won't be legal but unless you are prepared to go to the wall with him at the labor board, it is pretty much a given.
Just so you know. HE has NOTHING to lose and all of your salary to gain betting that you won't stay and fight. |

Well, of course he COULD say that, whether or not he does is another thing. If you dont stay and work those 35 days notice, don't expect to be paid for them. Just be prepared to work for another month. If he asks you to leave after Cheosuk, then so be it. You don't want to be there any more right? But anyway, just sound him out. You may be surprised. I once gave my boss 4 days notice, he paid me out anyway and wished me luck. |

Be prepared for your boss to act like a jilted lover. |

| Thanks for the info! I don't mind working the 35 days, it's just that I want to be paid for Chuseok. I'm afraid they'll say, "Well, work until the end of September, then you're through," just to get out of paying me for a week's vacation. I work at an English Village, and it's run by a large corporation, so I don't think they'll do too much to cheat me (or am I being naive?!). I've been working there 5 months. There's nothing in my contract about having to pay back the money for my visa run or anything like that, so they can't take money out of my last paycheck, right? The only thing it says is that if you give less than 35 days notice, you have to pay up to 500,000 won. |

| Any reason you can say why you're leaving? |
