You know the type; hidden behind the computer screen where they feel they can say anything they want.

Most are just fools, but sometimes they cross the line....(from a poster on another message board)

Quote:
I had an awakening over the last weekend about the true reflection of a male dominated police force. My girlfriend and I had decide to spend a leisurely weekend at the beach on the east coast out by Deagu. We were enjoying the time in the water, with many about, grasping the last days of summer. Amongst the beachgoers were 20 or 30 wave skiers having their own fun and offering any swimmers a 20 minute ride for the 10000 won. One such guy approached us in the water and offered to take my girlfriend for a ride. I agreed on the price and put my girlfriend on the front with the operator controlling from behind.

So off they went for 10 minutes. When they came back my girlfriend was in obvious stress. I just thought it had been a bit too much for her, as she couldnt swim. We went back to our place on the beach and after 30 minutes she finally told me what happened.

During her ride the operator had slipped his hand under her bikini without consent. Immediately I advised her to go to the nearest police station to report the incident. But being a small fishing village, offered no such service. Later on that afternoon we saw two police officers walking down the beach. We immediately went over to them to explain our story. The policeman's reply to this left me in total bemusement. His first remark was to shift the blame to her. "It is partly your fault for getting yourself into that situation and you were asking for trouble" and secondly "You should have reported this earlier on. It's too late now"

Basically they said there is nothing we can do, when translated into lamens terms means I"m a lazy korean dog who can't be bothered doing my job if it involves a minor sexual incident, which is looked upon anyway as an acceptable part of my society.

Well sorry asshole but that is not acceptable in todays society!! I was soooo angered by that coupled by the fact that I can't do anything about it. I have lost total faith in the law here and next time something like that happens I will take the law into my own hands because my justice will make creeps like that think twice before laying their sleazy hands on some girl!

The police force here is an utter joke!!

and now the response from guy called bornwinner.....

Quote:
today's society? where are you?

Where are you right now in the world, are you at the beach on centre island in Toronto? Then you might have a case but guess what? this isn't canada.

Do you think every country in the world follows the western mentality of charge and sue, charged and sue. What happened to you isn't cool but really man I think you are seriously over-reacting.

I think you should marry her tomorrow and get on the first flight out of korea and if you don't then shut the hell the up and stop vomiting your western society values.

.....oh and you want to take the law the law into your own hands? You have a better chance of beating the hell out of your shadow then winning a fight against koreans when the cops get involved. Win the fight and sepnd a month in jail or lose the fight and still spend a month in jail the choice is your but either way you had better start learning that jail house rock song....

this was followed immediately by another poster called Zbcrazy......

Quote:
Actually, the policeman was correct. If you had not put your girlfriend ( who could not swim) out on the water with a stranger, he could not have touched her. If she hadn't of had on such a small bikini, he couldn't have gotten inside it easily. Main point. Waiting so long to report it made it impossible for the policeman to do anything about it.

Your anger and sense of judgement is what is a utter joke

Seriously, if these guys said the same thing to me they'd get their teeth kicked in. Yes, I see the irony of this statement as well, but the point i'm making is that some of the comments made by these fools in real life would trigger a violent response.

Now i'm all for freedom of speech, but there's a line that shouldn't be crossed.

I would never let my girlfriend within arms reach of anyone, let alone sit in front of a Korean guy straddling her from behind. That's me. No flame, just my opinion.

Careful, now you sound like the tough guy. But I'm all with you on that one.

You'd kick someone's teeth in for being honest to your face? And then you wonder why people feel like the only place they can be honest is hidden in anonymity?

Those responses really weren't even bad. I've seen better examples here at Dave's.

Imbroglio I agree with you.

And I realised the irony of my original post and edited it to show that I did.

But Qinella, these two went way across the line. They were just cruel and wouldn't say those things in public.

One guy said "he was overreacting" while the other blamed the girl for wearing a bikini that was too small.

Honesty, Qinella? Please man, I don't know if you have a girlfriend, but if something like that happened to her how would you feel? And how would you feel if bornwinner and Zbcrazy said those things to your face?

I tend to agree, 'bornwinner''s reply is really quite culturally sensitive; who's to say which culture is right on this, is there really a need for a fifty-thousand dollar court case every time a little frottage occurs? The Korean police's stance on this is well known.

'Zbcrazy' gives a very matter-of-fact existential account-- not many people can handle this sort of interpretation, so the OP is not really at fault for misunderstanding matter-of-fact truth.

This is a brilliant example of limp-dick cultural relativism.

A little "frottage"? Are you fucking stupid?

Well ariellowen, i guess you'd make the same argument that it ok to keep women in Saudi Arabia from an education and the ability to walk about in public without another man because it's their culture.

I'm starting to understand this whole apologist thing a lot better.

I've officially joined the anti-apologist camp.

Can you not attach the fact that the only way you can perpetuate you species is through gulling. Holy shit, you're a mocking bird.

I have no idea how I'd feel. It would depend a lot on tone. But one thing is for sure: I don't attack people when they say something I don't like. I might fly off the handle a bit, maybe perch myself on a barstool and beat my chest or something, but initiate violence over words? I've eaten too many of your avatars to even consider that route.

Correct, let the Saudi's do as they will. (Or, irrationally intervene, imagine if you wish, that you hold the moral high ground. It's an important part of the defn of culture: "...beliefs....")

I hear you and for the most part I try to avoid confrontation and have never been in a full on fight.

But at the same time, I have a Korean girlfriend and if those two clowns said the same thing to my face if that happened to my girl I really don't know what I would do. But physical violence comes to mind.

It just irks me that people think they can say anything they please because they are protected behind a computer screen. The internet affords a lot of freedom and allows people to express their self without their physical appearence influencing how they are percieved.

As a result, some people say stuff on message boards they would never say in real life.

It's too bad that some take this too far.

Yes there are shades of gray, but there is also defined black and white sometimes.

I don't know enough about your personal history to have a debate with you so I won't. But please do me the favor of living in a country like Saudi Arabia or North Korea and come back to me with your ideas of cultural relativism.
