Has this ever happened to anybody else, and what did you do?
Today my ex-employer (yep, EX-employer), called saying I owed 200,000 won on health insurance. No kidding. I say, "What?" He said that I paid "premium" insurance, and I'm like, "I did? I've paid HI every month, why must I pay more?" He said there were "differences." I said, "What differences, it was taken out of my payslip every month." He said, "You must come on Monday, so we can explain it."
I've never had pay problems with this school, but admin had always been pedantic. I've never heard of "premium" health insurance in my life. OK, my salary had been high, but "premuim"? Yeah, right. First time I heard it after four years there. I paid more than I got out of it.
I don't work there anymore. If there was a problem, they should have addressed it earlier. Anyway, I'd recorded my payslips on a spreadsheet. Every month the amount taken is different. Too bad there doesn't seem to be any accountability in K law about this whole thing.
Things is, could they take it out of my account?
Hope you guys are having a better day than I. I'm peeved. |

As far as I know, everyone on the national health plan pays a set amount each month. That wasn't your case.
You are right to be suspicious.
It's time to get the phone number of your local national health plan office. |

There is NOTHING he can do and he can't take it out of your account unless you gave him your "secret code" number. You can always change banks if you are paranoid.
Unless he had you enrolled in some kind of private insurance he is NOT telling you the truth. |

Thanks for your help, guys.
I'd thought this was a load of balony, but I wasn't sure about their accessability to my account. Nothing is private these days.
It's national HI, and there are differences in payment most months. Generally they are small, but there are a couple of times when I paid much more than usual.
So off I'll go to a local office on Monday, bringing with me my ARC, payslips and spreadsheet. If admin overcharged me, I want to know about it. If admin had undercharged me, then I'll pay the difference through my next employer.
Obviously they wanted the money for themselves. Now why doesn't that surprise me? |
