Same as anywhere else I'm sure. The Korean teachers certainly don't get paid more just for working in Kangnam.

I'm not totally sure about this but a principal at a gyeongki-do public school told me the max a teacher could make was 2.5 mil, with a masters and a tesl certification.

I don't think public schools are allowed to be very different from other places. So I can't imagine it being that different in Kangnam.

Level 1 teachers this year can earn 2.4m + 100,000 or 200,000 (and therefore up to 2.6m) depending upon how rural the area is.

Since when was Gangnam-gu considered rural? What would someone expect with 2 years experience, 100hour online TESOL course make?

between 2.2 and 2.4
It depends on how they count your experience. Some programs count hagwon experience as half.

salaries vary slightly between smoe, gepik, gangnam, gunpo etc. gepik and smoe (I believe) don't have as many levels on their pay scale

Wrong. The minimum at Gangnam-gu public schools is 2.5 million. I just started at one 2 weeks ago and I am making more than that because of my experience in Gyeonggi-do.

That's the first I've heard this. What are the details of the contract (hours, vacation time, ect.)? Thanks, curious

Basically these jobs are advertised very little because there is little turnover, and the spots get filled quickly because people get their friends the open jobs. The contract is 25 hours a week (not 22), but my school only gave me 21 hours. Minimum 4 weeks vacation, but I know the girl that I replaced got about 8-9 weeks last year and the year before. It varies from school to school, but most people that I know that work for Gangnam-gu generally enjoy it and don't plan on leaving their job. There are others on this board that also work for Gangnam-gu.

Yep. That's the offer for CELTA or equivalent ESL certification in the southeastern city of Changwon, near Busan.

Honestly, my friend got me the job. I asked the lady that does the recruiting and she said that this year they only hired 2 or 3 teachers. I was one, another was the friend of a person, and they were looking for a 3rd because a person cancelled, but that was back in August. In other words, you need to know somebody.

Then.....why the heck am I on 2.2 with a MA,CELTA and 1 year in a public school under my belt in Seongnam?!

Is Seongnam so different from Gangnam-gu or am I getting reamed by the recruiter and /or school?

Gangnam and Seocho gu are different from every other place it seems. From what I know, in Seocho they focus on getting Gyopos and they only do 6 or 8 month contracts and get flights to and from Korea paid for.

In Gangnam, it is a little strange. It is not done by the education office. Instead, it is controlled just by the district office and they also hire teachers for non-public school jobs.
