Before I came to Korea I rarely wore a shirt and tie. Now I wear one everyday and realize my tucking skills are terrible. Is there a secret to getting the back of your shirt to look nice? |

Yep... It all depends on your waist size. |

Tuck your undershirt into your underwear. Then tuck your shirt into your trousers. Now your shirt wont get all bunched up with your undershirt and you will look neater. |

No.
The key is to have shirts that fit you. Too big and it will billow out and make you look ridiculous. Too small and it will be pinched all over. Use a mirror to make adjustments. Also, your jacket will smooth things out.
I admire a man who gets a perfect shirt tuck. Watch Alec Baldwin in "The Cooler". Perfect tucks. |

If you build up a six pack, maybe you can just forget about the shirt |

Yeah. Most collared shirts are made to fit the average porker.
Buy a slim fitted shirt, they are back in style now. Or have it altered. |

I'm usually happy with my tuck that I do in front of the mirror at home. What ruins it is that I get to work, and invariably I must take a dump. Then I can't seem to get a decent shirt tuck going when I'm in the toilet stall. I get out of the stall and fumble with the shirt in front of the public restroom mirror, but every effort I make simply worsens the matter.
Finally I conclude, "It doesn't matter. Nobody will notice that it looks bad. But people will notice if you don't leave this restroom and teach a class. So you better just forget about the shirt tuck."
Then I leave the restroom and make myself forget about the shirt tuck. That's life. |

I'm still feeling sorrow about a guy who has to wear a tie every day. I've worn one twice in the last decade or so, and both to weddings, one of them mine.
Sorry, I know it's off-topic, but I think someone already answered the question, anyway ... and I really did feel sad at this whole tie thing, and I wanted to share.
I also prefer shirts that don't need to be inside the pants, but in Korea and most temperate zones, that's only practical in the summertime ...

Besides having a shirt that fits you, buy some slacks that have a rubberized inner-waiste line. Most decent quality slacks do have those rubber-band like material that helps keep the shirt stay put. |

I've bought a lot of pants, both expensive and cheap, and I've never heard of this in my entire life. |

ALL of my suit pants and dress pants have a double latex band running inside the waistband.
Even the pair from "tip-top-tailors" in Canada has it, so I know you can get it/them in Canada as well as other countries. |

When was the last time you bought a pair of pants? |

So I went to military school, & this is going to sound so ridiculous, but... tuck your shirt in the way your normally do, then, button up your pants, leave the zipper down, reach in, & pull your shirt down as much as possible. All around you, if you can reach.
Like I said, totally weird @ 1st, but it worked for inspection times when you got your @$$ kicked for not being perfect.
Note: They also recommended the underwear tuck appraoch, but I just refused. |
