Does anyone know the regulations for a foreigner opening a business. It's not an English hagwon, but a business and I do have an F-5 visa and I'd like to have it in my own name. Can any one offer me any details or has anyone been through this themselves? I read through the study bong/hagwon posts, but I think this may involve some different criteria? Any info out there?

Thanks!

Your best bet would be talking to a foreign business lawyer.

Any half-a$$ advice that you might get here will most likely get you and your new business in serious trouble.

I don't know the answer for someone with an F5 (permanent residence visa).

I think (but I am not 100% sure) that you have to play by the same rules as a Korean citizen and NOT for a foreigner.

I have only worked (re: business related stuff) with people on D-class (treaty trader / treaty investor) type visas.

I do not even know where you would get competent advice. Most lawyers here wouldn't have a clue either.

You might try talking to the relevant government branches. You may get conflicting and/or erroneous information from them but be persistent. Once you get the paperwork done you are good to go.

You might want to try the American embassy if you're American or try you own embassy. I know they would have connection to some sort of American or other Chamber of Commerce that would lend a hand in providing business law or regulation for foreign businesses in Korea.
