Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could get my some advice. My wife's labtop screen has gotten darker and darker in terms of being able to see anything on it. She said it would cost about $200 to fix.

Does anyone know if that sounds about right?

i know that i've been told before that laptop screens are next to impossible to fix, so that sounds about right. when i got my HP, it took a week for the screen to mysteriously die. weird as hell, the guy at London Drugs had never seen anything like it before, and instead of fixing the screen they gave us a new computer. just easier i think.

If it's getting dimmer and dimmer, it's probably the power inverter that's going bad. $50-$150 is normal for an inverter replacement, depending on the complexity of the job and the cost of the parts.

What's a labtop? You mean "laptop" don't ya? If so, what brand is it?

Yes, I did mean laptop.

Sony VAIO Model #PCG-883N

Just trying to get an idea of this is an easy fix or if the thing is garbage. Yes, I know the computer was garbage to begin with.

Well, for laptop repairs, you can expect to pay more than regular. So I guess 200 bucks isn't terribly bad...

I'd pay up to a couple hundred bucks for the repair IF the laptop was otherwise in good shape and it contained reasonably current technology.
