Hello all, I have just arrived in Changwon (near Busan) and I'm looking for a job; does anyone have any leads for me? Here's a quick profile of myself:
Canadian male, 45 years old, B.Ed (Secondary; English major, French minor)
Permanent (lifetime) Professional Teaching Certificate acquired by teaching the requisite number of years in my Canadian home province
Completed one full contract year in a hogwon in Greater Seoul area a couple years back; 2.2 million per month plus the usual other things; naturally I hope for at least as good a deal this time.
I am lodged in Changwon, where I would prefer to work and live near a friend, but I'd consider going farther afield, to Busan for example, for the right job.
A PRIVATE High School or Middle School might be nice, I have been hearing about some very good situations in such places, even very Christian ones.
So far I have called a number from the bulletin board in O'Brien's, but that was in vain. Certainly I will try to meet and greet other teachers in O'Brien's, now that I am learning my way around here, but in the meantime if any of you have any advice for finding a nice job round these parts I would greatly appreciate it! (Also, any leads on proofreading/editing/writing/copyediting if you have them) |

So far a couple of answers in PM, thanks very much. To the second PM (I reply in public because this might be useful info generally):
I came here on a 2-way ticket and entered simply with a tourist visa; I also did this last time round, changing return date as needed. When I found my job last time, I was sent to Japan on my visa run, and I suppose that's how it will work again this time.

You just missed the boat on proper public scghool jobs in changwon as some vacancies were just filled about 6 weeks ago....
I know of a few hagwon positions but i wouldn't recommend the hagwons...
