I need to be able to network my printer to my wifes computer. I have a wireless router on my pc and my wife can access the net via it.

can this be done or do I have to buy her her own printer?

Good Morning!

All you have to do is find the printer on the home network. This is under start/control panel/printer and faxes.

Then choose find a printer from the left part of the window.

then choose find the printer on the network.

Find it and choose it.

You are all set. Your pc will automatically install the printer onto your pc.

i'm still totally confused. I first set my printer up to be shared, then went to the wifes computer did what you say and it didn't find the printer.

what do I need to do first to set her up on the network?

She connects to the net through my connection via a wireless router.

ah. On her computer, do the following:

start/control panel/network and internet connections/set up or change your small home or office network/click next/click next again/then chose the options that fit the bill.

Do this on both computers.

Then do the printer add/on.

You may have to manually grant access. If the above doesn't work, let me know and i'll give you a step by step on how to give her access to your pc and printer.

ok. If you have done each thing, then the only other problem I can think of is:

You will have to manually enter your ip address into her computer so that the firewall doesn't block your access (and vice versa). Just open your windows firewall (start/control panel/network connections/windows firewall/add port or program.

This may be getting too technical for you. Try to fix the router problem first. Strange, if your wife can access your pc and read files, then she should be able to use the printer and vice versa.

also, wireless routers tend to have firewalls built into them. You may want to check that as well.

Next time I am in Seoul (hopefully within the next couple of weeks), if you'd like, I will try to put aside some spare time to swing by and see if I can fix it.

OK I think I found my problem, the router I got only has ports for high speed internet not USB ports where I can hook my printer to.

I know now that I need a new router so the question is do I get a second one just for my printer and just piggyback it to the one I have or are there routers that will do both internet and USB?

thanks
