Just wondering about the stats of contracts that pay for a trip home at the end of a contract if you are re-signing.
Mine doesn't - considering 'packing a sad'! |

Why would you sign a contract that didn't?? 
And it is negotiable.
If they want to you re-sign then you want the trip home or cash in leu. If they offer no benefit to re-signing, then tell them you are looking for a better contract and thank them for your time there.
The choice is yours. (They will often re-consider if you are a teacher that they want to keep). |

I wouldn't expect that unless I were actually leaving the school.
You get the end-of-year bonus anyway though, right? I've never worked more than a year at one school. |

I noticed that this 'perk' wasn't in the contract upon signing - but never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined I would stay on - but I did.

Yep, i got a severance when my first year finished.
I don't feel particulary hard done by or anything. A friend is trying to convince me to demand it. I first just wanted to get some feedback on how 'expected' the airfare reimbursement is. |

| Either you negociate a cash value instead of the ticket or a delay between contract end and new contract and fly home for a holiday (or somewhere else). |

True, but if you are planning to re-sign, then getting the airfare or a signing bonus equal to airfare is NEGOTIABLE. Pay me or lose me.
or to be a little more diplomatic about it....
"I am finished at the end of this contract. Give me a ticket home and pay my severance. Thank you.
Now if you are interested, we can negotiate a new contract for next year if you want. If you don't want to re-hire me for next year then thank you. It was a pleasure working here. " AND find yourself a new job with a school that will pay.
Why should you lose a million won to put in his pocket?
This is NOT to be confused with your severance (or as worngly worded in some contracts "contract completion bonus") which you are (usually) legally entitled to anyway. |

I have always got an airfare allowance/air ticket in any job....
If they didn't offer it i wouldn't sign...
I have had to negotiate it but all my past employers have had no problems |

Update...
Mentioned to the appropriate person about it. Kind of nervously, because I don't like to rock the boat and it's taken months to get into the good books after a slight housing dissatisfaction.... and anyway it's not in the contract - so be it.
BUT, they just wanted to know 'do most other public schools give it?' and that was that - they have remibursed me for last year!!!
So, if you have a good rapport with your school it's worth going for.
PS - I work for a private high school for a little above normal salary (a reason why I wasn't pushing the issue)
