How has your opinion of people changed since you've come to Korea?
Korean people confuse me. They can be the warmest and kindest people at times. At other times, especially in public, I can believe how some of them behave.

My answer would be that since coming to Korea, Koreans have just made me think that everyone is just looking out for themselves and will behave in whatever way that benefits them at the time. I have always believed this, but was never totally convinced of it 'till coming here.

Thats true and I think the realisation comes with age, not just being in korea. Although-Koreans can be a lot more obvious/blatant about their motives than westerners I think.
Also in korea the foreigner community is largely made up of relatively brief acquintances of convenience. Difficult to build up long term friends, so you usually end up with the impression of people as somewhat selfish opportunists.

Universally I suppose, decent/well behaved people are considered weak. Therein lies the problem.

I've learnt more about westerners than Koreans in my time here.

Koreans haven't damaged my opinion of mankind much, but the expats I've met certainly have. I've met some really destructive people-- opportunistic, callous, manipulative, calculating. I'm much more suspicious of people than I was two years ago.

I haven't found Koreans to be anymore manipulative or calous than any other race; they're just more open about things. I've known since a young age that 99.9% of people are Users and only value those relationships upon which there's something to gain whether it's financial or social. Sad but true. I therefore tend to not cultivate close relationships with people until I've known them for years not months.

That is right on....it is more about age and experience than about the place where you live....

What Kermo said is also interesting. I think the biggest surprise for me here has been other westerners (some of them anyway) as they rumble through the place behaving like cavemen who just discovered booze. It is sad to behold.

I also think that people looking out for themselves is a pretty common trait the world over....so that did not surprise me in the least here.
