|
|
Ok, so here's my (bright) idea...
What do you guys think of us compiling a resource, in the form of threads devoted to teaching specific/particular parts of English, for all of us here in the job-related discussion forum to contribute to and to pillage?
What I mean by "specific/particular parts of English" is things like:
- Comparatives/Superlatives
- Present Perfect/Simple Past
- Modals
- Relative Clauses
- Reported Speech
- Passive/Active Voice
- Agreeing/Disagreeing
- Giving Directions/Location Words/Expressions
- Countable vs Non-Countable nouns
- etc...
We could start a thread and put a seldom-used word in it's title, or an acronym, to make it come up easily in searches. Something like DRATS (Dave's Remarkable Activity Thread Search) with the section of the thread, as in:
DRATS: Comparatives/Superlatives
Anyone can start one, everyone can contribute, and all activities posted should include materials needed, and a short run-through of how the activity works. If we work together on this, we could build up an impressive collection of activities that would/will make us all better teachers, not to mention cut down on time searching all over the place for specific areas of teaching we are focussing on in our classes.
If the response to this thread is good, I'll start the ball rolling with a DRATS thread (or suggest your own thread acronym) in the next few days.
So, what do you think? |

| I just searched "DRATS" and only 3 threads came up, this one being the first... |

| I think it's an excellent idea. There are tons of good activities already on this site, but they are not organized in any useful way, so it takes hours and hours to find anything at all. |

Hmmm, one poster... (thanks Mr. Ya-ta!)
If no other posters show interest, I don't think it'll happen... |

Sounds like a great idea, Hanson.
For a newbie like me it'll be a great help and hopefully when I've got some experience under my belt, I can contribute to it myself. |

an amazing idea. i'll contribute
could you make a sticky page for DRATS? then have the other pages linked to that one. no need for the wonderful, always functioning search engine... |

| I think happygirl's idea is a sound one. Getting it made into a stickie before anything is posted is the trick. Someone should ask the mods about this. |

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
I just notified the mods of the idea of making these threads stickified. Anybody else have any suggestions or comments about this?
Anyone? |

Ok, so here's what I got from one of the mods:

Hi Hanson, your idea is good...but if you look at the Job and General forums there simply isn't any more room for a bunch more stickies.
I think the teaching ideas should get an entire forum of their own. That would allow enough room for all the differing aspects of English teaching.
Not sure Dave would want to add one but I can post a note in the mod forum and see what the other mods think about it first.
Cheers!

So, I guess I'll wait and see what the other mods think, and we'll go from there. I think a new forum would probably be the way to go, if Dave wants to make one... It sure would be helpful to all of us, though. Heck, most of my "killer" activities (in the good way) are based on what I've learned from other teachers over the years... |
