Now here's something you don't see every day in Korea, a free indie music festival. Sounds like it could be a good time. Anyone here go to it last year?

Indie Musicians to Play in Kwangmyong
By Chung Ah-young
Staff Reporter
Kwangmyong, a city south of Seoul, was reborn as ``music city last year, as the citys first music festival was successfully held on the streets and main stages, receiving warm applause from music lovers.
This year, the city is bracing for 40 artists and groups at the second Gwangmyeong (Kwangmyong) Music Valley Festival that will take place in Kyonggi Province.
The festival will run for three days from Friday to Sunday on two different stages _ Open Stage, the major stage, and Free Stage, the street stage.
This years festival will showcase Korean musicians and world-renowned artists under the slogan ``Worldwide Music Network in Gwangmyeong Music Festival.
Following in the footsteps of last years maiden festival, the organizers this year will have a more extended musician line-up, by attracting underground musicians and independent singers.
``When it comes to Korean pop music, creativity has often been neglected because of an excessive focus on commercial success. However, this festival will spotlight musicians creativity, giving them space to execute their artistry rather than extravagant showbiz-like performances, a festival organizer said.
``With that idea in mind, we organized the line up with underground but devoted musicians, rather than pop icons, to enhance the quality of Korean pop music. Well help the festival become the nations representative music festival with high quality, she said.
On the first day, well-known underground musicians such as Chang Pil-sun, Kim Chang-gi, Han Young-ae and Kang San-e will open the festival as the ``Valleys Choice on the major stages.
On the second day, top-notch foreign bands _ Dark Tranquility, DSound, and Straylight Run _ will entertain music enthusiasts.
Dark Tranquility, a Gothenburg metal band from Sweden, will also feature on Saturdays stage``Heaviness, which is a heavy metal genre. The band is the longest standing band from the famed Gothenburg metal scene and one of the inventors of the Gothenburg sound.
DSound, a Norwegian band popular as acid-jazz musicians in Europe, Asia and the United States, will perform on Sundays stage, ``Electronica & Lounge. It is the third time for the Norwegian band to visit Korea.
Straylight Run, a New York-based indie rock band, will feature on Saturdays stage ``Modern Times, a performance which deals with modern and indie rock.
On the last day, Korean musicians _ harmonica player Jun Je-duk, ethnic fusion band Second Moon (Tubonjjae Tal) and soul band Windy City _ will perform.
On the Free Stage, hip hop musicians, including Soul Company, will meet fans over the weekend.
The organizer said that in Korea there are many similar music festivals specializing in specific music genres, such as rock and jazz, as the cities and the provinces vie to attract more tourists.
But Kwangmyong city is destination for music fans seeking diverse music genres in depth and quality.
The festival will also set a trend with the ``New Currents section, which will offer a variety of music genres by selecting emerging musicians, the organizer said.
``New Currents consist of five sections _ Modern Times, Heaviness, Black Music, Electronica & Lounge and Acoustic Waves.
The festival is free of charge.
