Anybody know what I'm likely to be charged in the way of fees on foreign bank cheques at a Korean bank?

Foreign Bank Checks? Do you mean traveler's checks? A check from Mom's checkbook sure aint' going to be accepted here. They don't even really have a checking system in Korea. Unless you are talking traveler's checks, I doubt you could get it to work.

Yes, a cheque from mom's bank account well be accepted here. I've cashed half a dozen small cheques from mom and grandma for little Christmas presents; however, there is a charge, so if the check is for less than say, 20 dollars, you'll lose the whole sum to bank fees.

Just relatives.Was pretty surprised they decided to send a cheque.Travellers cheque would have been better.Even just cold hard cash wrapped in paper.

Lose about $20.Thats all?Thats less than the charges for wiring.....

I'm thinking there could be a triple charge.1 to apply for the funds,1 to check if there are enough,1 more to deposit the money in a Korean account.
