I thought I saw a thread asking where to get a goog burger before. Anyway, I thought I would share some info about a new place in the COEX food court (the one with the glass pyramid roof). It's called "Home Made Burger."

They make their own bread/buns. The vegetables on the burger were fresh (tomatoes were actually red!) The burger patty itself wasn't anything special (not broiled or hickory smoked or anything) but it was a real hamburger patty. The menu is very simple: about 5 kinds of burgers, fries, chili, chili cheese fries and drinks. I would recommend making your burger a "double" for an extra 1400 won. The drinks are refillable and self-service. The chili cheese fries were pretty good, not much cheese but a decent dallop of sour cream was included and the chili is tasty though rather tame. My wife even ate and liked her burger there and she is a former vegetarian and still not too keen on meat. Give it a shot.

Or just go to the Smokey Saloon in Itaewon. You'll pay 9,000 ~ 10,000 won for a meal there, but you won't be disappointed.

The place you photographed here looks like a run-of-the-mill food court restaurant. If their prices are any highter than 6000 won for a set meal, it's better to at least enjoy a real restaurant atmosphere like the Smokey Saloon.

Some people are very foolish in Korea. Companies like Krispy Kreme and Kraze Burger set up shop and charge double what they should be charging and people pay it. They're even more expensive than similar restauarnts in Tokyo.

Mmmmmmm.....Smokey Saloon. Gecko's makes good burgers if not a bit salty, but makes sense since they're pushing drinks.

Theres a good place at gangnam called Joy&Charlie's. They give you the burger sans toppings and you then build your own burgers with different toppings. Better burger than at Geckos and much cheaper.

Oh, I almost forgot. The Chicago Bar & Grill has awesome burgers. And they have banana/chocolate milkshakes.

I've got to update a few things on the wiki, as I'm doing a review of Joy&Charlies that I had last week (right before losing my camera Sad ).

Smokey Saloon has also opened up a new location in Apgujeong. Not the most trafficked of streets, so I don't know how long it'll last. I'll try to remember directions.

Great Steak and Potato Company in Apgujeong is good, but hella expensive. I paid 17,000won for a phillie cheese steak sandwich and chili fries.

I'm not here to claim this is the best place in Seoul for a burger. I just said it was a good place with fresh bread and toppings. It is certainly not "run-of-the-mill" as far burger places in Korea go. Some people don't feel like going all the way to Itaewon when they want a burger. COEX is much easier for me to go to and probably for some others as well. Just thought I'd mention there's a new place there with good burgers-not trying to start a burger war.

No burger war, my friend. I just wanted to open up the debate of these overpriced fast food hamburger places that are springing up all over the place. They're making huge profits by paying workers 2000 won an hour and making you sit on plastic stools.

If you're gonna pay 12,000 won for a burger, fries and a drink, why not go to a real restaurant where you get the comfort and atmosphere that's included at that price level?

If you want convenience at that price, go to TGI Fridays. Their burger isn't fantastic, but it's still much better than most fast food restauarants.

At Joy and Charlie I had a cheeseburger, I piled on the toppings (they have over a dozen different toppings) and what didnt fit on the burger I put on the side, a beer and cheese fries for about 10,000. Its worth the price.

Well, it's a lot less than 12,000 won for burger fries and drink. You get fries and drink with any burger for 2,000 won extra. The burgers start at 3900 and go up to 5000 maybe? Plus, they were giving drinks for free this time. Anyway, as for atmosphere, I see your point, but I have a two year-old and the food court atmosphere is better for him. Take a two year-old to a nice atmosphere and the atmosphere often becomes less nice for the others.

I don't mind the 2 year olds at TGI Fridays. It's the 5 to 10 year olds that run around the place that disturb me. Those little devils. Evil or Very Mad Very Happy

Your baby also wouldn't fit in with the Itaewon G.I.s, ho's and weirdos. COEX is a good choice for you. For the rest of us, the Itaewon freak show is something to be amused by or to tolerate temporarily.

Hey Everyone,

I was the one asking for a good place to go for a burger. Could someone please point us in the right direction for Joy and Charlies? What part of Gangnam? What is it close to?

Thanks for the information on the new burger place in CoEx too. I live in Bundang and like someone said Itaewon isn't always the most convienent of places to go to eat.

I will definitely be making some trips to get a good burger soon. I am going home in August and I am not sure that I can wait that long to get a good pub burger.
