|
|
| I'm in the process of getting a teaching job in Korea (CDI). Originally I was offered a job in Yeongtong (Suwon). However, as I had expressed the desire to be as close to Seoul as possible, I was recently offered the opportunity to switch to Guri. I know little about either of these towns, and couldn't find much out via google, wikipedia, etc. So, what are these two cities like? |

Direct busses (express way city busses) from Yeongtong to locations in Seoul take around 40 minutes. Most of the people in Seoul take longer than that to commute anywhere...
You can get from Yeongtong to Jamsil (lotte world) in 40 minutes.
Yeongtong to Gangnam in 40 minutes, Sadang in 45, Itaewon in 60.
It would still take you just about 50 minutes and 2 transfers (3 subway) lines to get from Guri station to Itaewon.
The only benefit you get by being in Seoul is bad air and cheaper taxi home if you end your party after midnight or before 5am when the busses start up again (but the bars are open that late anyway).
Just my 2 cents worth. |

I live 10 mins away by metro from Guri.
Lets say you have more chance meeting a foreinger in Sowun then Guri, it seems like a farmers collective. |

I dunno if he/she's (above) right, but I say check out Jeju or Ilsan if you can... my mother's a native Korean & she said these were the best 2 places.
If you've only got Suwon & Guri to choose from, Suwon. : ) |

Suwon, especially the Yongtong area is alot better to live the Guri...
You'll have plenty of nice restaurants and shopping nearby and it's not that far from Seoul by bus...
Guri is a dump... |

Stop shouting. This isn't LA.
Anyway, both places are good, and have advantages and disadvantages.
But why CDI?!? |

| No joke, Guri is not a fun place to be, especially at that CDI franchise. There are many better CDI schools to work for, that one is a comlete nightmare, avoid it if you can. Last warning. |

This guy is right on. There is a reason they need teachers there especially. If you go to Guri you WILL regret it.
Go to Suwon or keep shopping. |
