Nine of 10 HIV/AIDS Patients Are Men
Moon said that the reasons for contraction of the disease were found for 3,222 of all patients. Among them, 1,377 contracted HIV through sexual intercourse with someone of the same sex while 1,801 contracted the disease through heterosexual relations.

She also pointed out that while female workers in the massage or entertainment industry, which has sexual overtones, are required to be tested for HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases by the government on a regular basis, male workers in the same industry, including those who work in "host bars," where men are hired for sexual services, are exempt. This could lead to further increases in the number of HIV-infected men.

"It is certainly gender discrimination that the government requires tests only for female workers and not male workers," said Moon. "Although the exact figures for male workers in the industry has not been ascertained, more and more men are getting involved and the government should be aware of this."
