As the denim mini skirt is the uniform of all young Korean women, the cargo pant is the mandated uniform of all young Korean men. Now, don't get me wrong. For city living, cargo pants are a god send. Baggy, loads of convenient pockets to carry your money, t-money card, camera, pda, cell phone, mp3 player, etc. I couldn't imagine being the urban explorer I am without my trusty cargo pants.

However, last time I was back in Toronto (Nov 2005), I noticed no one was wearing cargo pants. Zip. I was so out of fashion, I'm sure people thought this was the first time I was out of Barrie.

Sigh.

And I thought the Darfur genocide needed attention...thank you for opening my eyes, Sir. You print the pamphlets, I'll hire the biplane.

Canadians will open they're eyes. Canadians will have cargo pants.

Cargo pants were never in fashion. It took a trip back home for you to realize this?

I wonder if there is a Korean phrase equivalent to "uber alles." I'd guess not as it's just a given, deeply knit into the Korean psyche.

In New Zealand all the cool kids have been wearing supertight black tapered jeans and calling them something like 'stealthpipes'. I think that's on the way out now though which is good because it made them all look like assholes.

As for cargo pants? Hard to find them outside of the science faculty.
