I'm having major problems with my laptop and I'm hoping for help/diagnosis. Everytime I turn it on, it begins to start up and then powers out. It seems as though it isn't holding on to power. Is it time for a new one, or is this fixable? Any help you give me will be greatly appreciated.

??? hmm....

Pardon me if I seem like I am stating the obvious; my intention is not to come across sarcastic:

have you charged your battery? If so, how old is your battery? Your cells may be dead and you may have to replace it.

Do you get past the POST (power on self test)? It could be a fried motherboard, some chip got fried due to static electricity, or the power source. Hard to say. You're surely looking at taking it to a repair guy. Who makes your laptop?
