|
|
Our school just switched to winter uniforms, and today I had a student and a teacher ask me 'are you cold?' because I was wearing short sleeves. No, in fact when I'm teaching I'm still perspiring because of the humidity.
How can everything temperature-related in this country - from when to use A/C or heating and how to dress - be determined by the calender? |

| It is NOT cold. Maybe at night with the wind blowing on top of my building....maybe, but not during the day. |

cold my a$$, its still warm enough to stroll to work with short sleeves on, I don't envision wearing long sleeves for another month at least. i love this temperature.
its funny here with the Koreans though, my school just changed back to winter digs also, along with that comes students with blankets in class along with heavy sweaters and some with lighter jackets.
Its almost as if one person says its winter time and everyone follows suit bundling up, including some teachers. I don't see why though it was still in the low 20's here today.
I sure get a kick out of kids in the winter, 3 layers of clothing, scarf and a huge winter parka as if they were ascending to the summit of Everest. All of this in a heated classroom (I have a long sleeve shirt and a thin sweater at most) and they refuse to take anything off even though I can see beads of sweat on thier foreheads.
hilarious it is |

It's been over 25 for the last few days in Seoul. It is very humid too. As soon as September starts Koreans get their sweaters out. My school even had the heating on today. |

| Yes, we can look forward to yet another winter with the doors left open, (why won't they put an automatic close on those things in this 'hi-tech country?), the north wind howling through the corridors, and students bundled up in nine layers of clothing in an already overheated room. I can hardly wait. But for now, the autumnal weather here is fine: warm days, cool nights for sleeping, minimal mosquitoes. If one has to be here, this is the time to do it. |

I was using the AC in class today, and the kids thought I was crazy. I asked them, "Are you hot?" "Yes." "Okay... so I'm using the AC." "But teacher, it's fall!" |

I was out last night with a Korean friend and a couple of English girls. They were wearing short sleeves, so my Korean friend asked them "Aren't you cold?" This made me smile, remembering the daily "Anchuo?" gauntlet I used to run at my old school. The Korean girl, a co-worker from back in those days, turned to me and said "I know that you are not cold. You are from Canada."
Damn straight!
These days, when I get the "Anchuo?" I always grin and assure them "I'm Canadian! I've got ice in my blood!" which settles the matter for the rest of the season. |
