Heya guys. I want to do martial arts near MunJeong Dong (Near Jamsil).

I don't want to do Tae Kwon Do. It's a little too much jumping and screaming for my taste. I'd like to do something like Ju-Jitzu (sp?), pressure point, or even stuff with sticks.

Anyone know of a place around here that does it?

I'm not familiar with MunJeong Dong, so I can't point you toward any specific Dojangs. But judging from what you've said I can recommend both Gumdo (sword-fighting) and Hapkido to you. They are both Korean fighting styles, and offer more than the kick-punch-yell of Tae Kwon Do.

Hapkido in particular is quite diverse; you'll learn grapples, wrist-locks, pressure points, acrobatics and weapons techniques in addition to all the kicky-punchy stuff Smile

GM In Sun Seo is the head of the Hanminjok Hapkido Association and they have a lot of schools in Busan. Check out http://www.hmjhapkido.or.kr/ for videos and info as well as a list of dojangs in Busan (or whereever else). Just hit the 공인도장 소개 button and then pick out Busan.

GM In Sun Seo is a first rate instructor and well worth checking out if you get the chance.

All the best!

Can you learn Hapkido at one of their schools without being able to understand [beyond basic] Korean?

If you read Korean, try www.mooto.com

Otherwise, there is a dojang in Songpa-gu where the master speaks English. I know he has at least one foreigner training there - probably more. http://hapkidoacademy.org

From what I have seen, it looks like a very good gym.

Hope this helps.

I think if you are pretty good at following what others are doing and if you have a patient instructor, the language barrier isn't that great. When I started I had basically no Korean but I did Okay. Going in with a positive attitude and a willingness to sweat and work hard should make it go well.
