I don't get it. we just started mid-terms today. they're all in the mornings, and the afternoons the students get off.

i've been told that 60% of your "getting into college quotient" is SAT, and the other 40% is midterms!

and i don't remember the July final exams being half a day. (i started at my public school on July 1)

insight?

The grade 3s take the CSAT 16 November, so yes, that and midterms is more important for them. For the others finals are still very important.

Every uni programme has its own requirements, however. For some the CSAT is really all that matters, for others not.

...they must be pretty darned important....

...I work in Middle School and we get the day off so that my co-teachers can go invigilate the local exams....

(not that it works out as much of a day off for my co-teachers...)

that's what i thought... but one of the K-teachers (granted, he doesn't have the best English) said that these mid-terms are most important for first and second graders.

I have no idea how your school's curriculum is organised but at mine they're the same importance as finals and last terms midterms and finals.
