Sorry, but I have to share this:
It just dawned on me that non-Koreans, especially caucasians here in Korea might not be as open and friendly to other caucasians and non-caucasian westerners. I guess since caucasians are the minority here, they want to feel accepted and apart of the culture even if that means shunning westerners, and mainly, other caucasian westerners. This is so funny when I found this out.
I thought the site of other westerners would be a welcome relief here in Korea. I guess it's a yes and no........LOL!!!
Hell, in America, sometimes some asian americans don't want to be seen around other asians for fear of being a part of that asian minority. In fact, I use to be like that when I was younger. Sometimes other asians don't want to be seen with other asians and they only want to date white women or white guys. You know, cultural assimilation.
It's very similar to other westerners being unfriendly to other westerners here in Korea. I'm dying and laughing inside! Wow, this is so funny. My caucasian friend recently tried to talk to this caucasian guy at the music store and got a pretentious look back from him. I'm sure he was thinking, oh god, another white foreigner, and jeez, thanks man....all of that time learning Korean, trying to get a Korean girlfriend, and you embarrass me in public...."
I guess when you're the minority, you just want to be fit in, be accepted, and be seen like everybody else.
LOL!!!
let the flaming begin! I really do love everyone one though...
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Share away.... |

anyone noticed lately (the past year or so) a LOT of newbies on this ESL teachers forum are Koreans or mixed-koreans - who are posting new-posts and replies trying to provoke foreign teachers here to get into arguments?
why can't we just make this site a "foreign-teacher" only site?
geez... in Korean we "foreign teachers" can't get memberships to many Korean sites - so shouldn't it also be the case with this site? (but vica-versa)..... |

To be perfectly Frank (and Frank is one hell of a badass perfectionist), I'm not particularly keen on posting on Korean websites. People who can read enough to make use of Korean forums obviously have a lot of Korean friends and can just ask one of them to set up an account. People who can't figure Korean out can't use the boards anyway.
As for trying to get rid of those big bad menacing Korean posters, I feel exactly the opposite. Brings different perspectives. It seems like some people using this dinky message board as a *literal* escape mechanism while living in Korea to go back to the West Side (wr3d uP dAWg) and even the slightest tinge of anything vaguely looking Korean sets people off. Sometimes it seems like bad spelling and grammar get you declared a Korean by default on here.
Oh, wait. You're afraid that the big bad Kowean guys are gonna find out all our dirty little secrets and sex festivals and beer bong parties. Well, maybe you're not. I'm just throwing ideas out here. I really don't see why people zero in on potential Korean posters and do everything they can to remind the person that they're Korean!

Wow, that was a 3 year rant in the making. |

What is it about this Tanooki suit that causes people to infer I'm not a pure-blooded Caucasian-American? |

I've got that shitty song stuck in my head now, so don't expect any help from me.
VVVVV I know, but it was fine on my monitor. Sometimes I forget that some people are using lower resolutions. |
