Does anyone know of any good chess clubs, or would like to form one?

Or even just a one-time tournament?

Post here if interested.

I'm game.

Or even a few nice games in the park under the trees or at a bench, like those old men do. I envy them sometimes. Saw some wicked fast moves among homeless-looking thirtysomethings on the streets of San Francisco and more sterotypical immigrant types in the small parks of Vancouver. Korean men play their baduk outside on the streets of this small town and I've wanted to learn the game to partake in the leisurely mental pursuit. So why not a few waygooks playing Western chess in public? That could be kinda fun!

There is a chess club in Seoul, which I found by surfing in Korean around Naver.com, but a German acquinatance of mine in Seoul said most members weren't very good, about 1800 at best. I'm in Busan, so that's all I know about it.

There were a few people interested and who play that posted in the "Busan living" section of pusanweb.com. I'm tempted to get in touch, but I'm a pretty serious player, about 2100 when I last played properly 10 years ago, so the prospect of taking forever playing beginners every other Sunday, without clocks, doesn't really appeal. Sure, that makes me sound a bit snobbish, but I need a bit of a challenge.

I'd definately be up for a tournament, I really miss sitting at a board and the social aspect, but where to have it? And the difficulties and expense of getting sets and clocks in Korea means it's probably unrealistic. I get my stuff from relatives in NZ myself, but if anyone knows where to get chess supplies in Korea that would be great (actually I do know a company, but they're so expensive its cheaper to get things delivered from NZ).

To play chess here I use Fritz9 and play over the chessbase server, and can have games whenever I like. But the CD costs a bit of money and has to be ordered from Germany, so if you want a cheaper alternative how about www.chesshere.com, which is free? It's like correspondence chess, only over the internet. Time controls range from 1 day to 15 days per move. Maybe if enough chess players in Korea register on it we could have a tournament on that ourselves, get a network going ,and then really have a proper physical tournament in Korea sometime. My ID on it is "Killer Bee".

Cheers.
