Why do Korean people always ask for your blood type? Do you ever get that?

But it determines a lot of things: from personality to marriagability (sp?).

I just say "red."

The Chosun Ilbo has been running a lot of articles about this. Blood type even affects choice of stocks or some such thing. The articles deliver a grin or two.

It seems to be an Asian thing, akin to Western astrology.

The Korean take on this derives from Japanese eugenics research/theories. Here's an article from Wikipedia:

I'm too annoyed to go poking around the Chosun Ilbo. (Good articles about boob jobs, though.)

Ah, what the hell . . . since you quoted me, here you go:

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=66409&sid=ad3811e8816c7c504dce2b38d3569e9e

Quote:
Blood type may have something to do with stock investment styles and the success of investment, a poll of 1,126 individual investors suggests. The poll was conducted by stock investment portal site Paxnet (paxnet.moneta.co.kr) from Aug. 30 to Sept. 8.
According to the firm, investors with blood type A and AB were more likely to pursue stable investment strategies and were relatively successful in investments, while those with blood type of O and B made more aggressive investments and often lost money.

Out of 394 investors with blood type A, 184 (47 percent) made profit in stock investment, as did 79 out of 173 investors with blood type AB (46 percent). Some 40.7 percent of investors with blood type B and 39 percent of those with blood type O made profit from stock investment.

But 15 percent of investors with blood type A and 13 percent with type AB lost more than half their principal, while 20 percent with type B and 18 percent with type O lost big. Among investors with blood type A and AB, 14 percent and 12 percent made a fortune at an investment return rate of more than 50 percent. But a mere 8 percent and 9 percent among investors with blood type B and O experienced such successful investment.

Type O and B investors were more speculatively inclined, according to the poll. Asked whether they invested on credit over the past year, 55 percent with type O and 49 percent with type B answered that they did, but only 37 percent with type A and 43 percent with type AB said yes. Some 47 percent of investors with blood type B invested in only one item, but only 32 percent of those with blood type AB put all their eggs in one basket.

There's a movie out entitled something like "My Boyfriend has B type Blood" Apperently being a B blood type is bad. It means you're not good marriage matterial. Prone to almost every negative social quality. They make a joke out of the idea but the movie has made it a popular question right now. I'm sure if you're a Korean man and have a B blood type you'd be lying to your (girl)friends right now. It'll probably blow over.

I just tell them I don't know and watch their eyes pop out so far I'd soon have to donate my type-unknown blood.

I just point out:

"Almost all Chimpanzees have Blood Type A.
Almost all Gorillas have Blood Type B."

Those facts either make people laugh or feel uncomfortable. It's a good character test when meeting Koreans who ask the silly blood type question.

Yeah, my Korean friends hsve told me that if a man has B type blood, he is not a good choice for a girl who also has B type. They say if a guy and a girl both have B type, they will argue and fight all the time. A Korean coworker of mine told me she thinks that's why her and her ex boyfriend fought so much. They were both B type. A girl with B should marry a guy with A or O.

I haven't heard any say this firsthand, but a friend of mine says he's had Korean women tell him they won't date a man with Type B.
