Sometimes it pops up at the bottom that a wireless connection is available. I don't know what that is, or if it is any different than the regular connection. Someone told me there are some things you can do with wireless, but I'd like to know what he was talking about. |

So when it pops up at the bottom and says a wireless is in range, click the bubbe and see what network it is. It will tell you if it is secured or unsecured. If it is unsecured (ie/ not password protected) then you can use it to connect to the internet. Of course, if you have cable at home you won't need it, but at least try it to see how it works and so you are familiar with the process. It is simple, just follow the steps on your screen. If it's a laptop you have, and you are out side of your home, then knowing how to access a wireless connection means that you can often get internet access at a time when you weren't expecting it.
I'm out of Korea now, and where I am living, someone in the close vicinity has an unsecured wireless to their house, which is in my range. If they aren't smart enough to secure their network, the way I see it, it's fine for me to use it. Result = free high speed wireless internet for me for the past 2 months.
As for the "things you can do with wireless" I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.....like, what you can do is -- use a network. You can pick up your laptop and walk around and not have any cords attached. Other than that, no idea what this person would be getting at. |

Wireless is usually slower than wired access, 50mb/s on a 100mb/s wired connection. If you have a wired connection, you can buy a wireless router and use the internet from anywhere in your apartment. But there is nothing special about wireless apart from this anywhere access, although wireless routers usually have excellent hardware firewalls. |
