|

I was offerred a teaching position with a public school and I accepted the position. I am less than 2 weeks from my start date when I just find out that I have to purchase my ticket to Korea. I read the contract before I signed it and it stated that the money will be loaned to me in order for me to purchase a ticket to Korea and that I will not have to pay it back if I am there for more than 6 months. What the recruiter is now saying is that I will be reimbursed for my ticket once I arrive in Korea.
I emailed the recruiter and told her that I don't have any $$$ to purchase a ticket to Korea and that the only way for me to travel to korea is if the schools pays for my ticket.
My question is, do all public schools require hired employees from out of Korea to first purchase his/her ticket and then get reimbursed upon arrival?

yep..... happens
That was the same song I got, and a couple of my friends had the same.
Lot of the issues is the creditcard system and plane tickets...........but that is another story.
I bought mine........worried to death.........got my money day after I arrived. The others I know got their money........ummm within a week at most.
if you want to know how i got my plane ticket pretty cheap PM me and i'll tell you.
Don't worry ..........it should be fine........ |

I paid for mine up front as well. The "loan" in your contract is the repayment they give you once you arrive. The deal is that if you leave before six months, you have to repay that loan. |

Thanks for the info guys.
I'm not enthusiastic about paying for my airfare and then getting reimbursed in Korea even though it is a sure thing.
I emailed my recruiter and informed her that I have no $$$ to purchase my ticket to Korea. Her response was that she will talk to the board of education and see if they can assist me.
I understand that some teachers have gone this route in order to get a prepaid ticket to Korea and then bail. But, I have sent all the necessary documents in order to be considered for a public school position and I have expressed genuine interest in not only teaching in a public school, but more importantly, teaching in Korea.
Well, I'll just wait for the recruiter's response and then I'll go from there.
Thanks for your input,
