For shell jewlery and similar stuff you can get it cheap by the Lapu-Lapu shrine on Mactan. It will be cheaper than the mall.
You can also get some neat stuff on the top floor of the MACTAN Gaisano mall (next to the Mcdonalds).
For t-shirts and stuff, just go to the mall. SM or Ayalla are your best bets.
IF you are staying on Mactan, then MARINA mall (yellow strip mall that you drive by about 5 minutes from the airport) has stall vendors that are pretty decent.
The old market in Carbon or downtown Cebu are NOT tourist friendly. If you go there, do NOT wear any jewlery or carry more money than you are prepared to lose.
There is NOT much in the way of tourist type stuff outside the malls except at a few of the tourist trap places (TOPS, the Santo Nino church, Lapu-Lapu shrine on Mactan, Magellans cross).
You can however get lots of stuff that you would find familiar at home in the major grocery stores (if you are looking for spices and stuff).
Clothes shopping is also VERY reasonable and in sizes that will fit (unless you are VERY big). Jeans from 700 pesos (w15,000), bathing suits from W2000-w15,000, tops from w1000.
If you are taking Korean currency, it is a little hard to exchange. You can do it at Ayalla mall or the currency exchange booth at Marina Mall. The rate is usually about php480 = w10,000.
You will get a better rate and it is easier to exchange US$.
Buy a couple thousand pesos at the airport here and ASK for 100 peso notes. Most places outside the malls CANNOT change the 500 or 1000 peso notes.
Don't go to a bank to change money. It will take a long time and you will get a very poor rate. There are legal money changers all over. Shop around for the best rates.
If you have an international ATM card you can also find machines at the malls that take VISA or CIRRUS / MasterCard / PLUS branded cards). The limits are LOW (5000 - 20000 pesos). |

Enjoy Cebu.. but be sure to get out of Mactan and also downtown Cebu.
Luhag and the uptown area of Cebu is a bit more upscale and more pleasant than either downtown or Mactan.
For shopping.. tourist places everywhere.. if you need to buy anything musical instrument-wise.. Mactan has a sizeable number of guitars, ukeleles, etc. They are hard to resist. |

Do you mean Lahug?
"Luhag" in Bisaya means something like "can't be still - or misbehaving" |
