I was kind of surprised by this move but on the other hand Ribeiro has been rumored to be on the block since last season.
It must have been time for a Habs shakeup as a warning to the rest of the team to shape up or risk being shipped out. |

This was an odd move for Gainey to make. Niinimaa was like the #8 defensman on Dallas so there was no need to trade their 2nd line center for him, especially given Niinimaa's salary. I understand why Dallas made the move, but they now have a log jam at center... Morrow-Ribeiro- Lindros-Halpren. Lindros didn't sign in Dallas to be a #3 center, and Halpren didn't sign there to be a #4 after spending half of last season playing with Ovechkin. Someone is getting moved to the wing, and someone isn't gong to be happy with it. I just signed Ribeiro up for two years in my fantasy league so I hope this works out for him. |
