I know Nashville and Woodstock which is why I'm curious, are their any proper western pubs in Gangnam that have good western food and/or show sports, etc. that are not filthy holes? Like a Sam Ryans or Wolfhound type? If not I'd be surprised considering its suppose to be the heart of Seoul (even though I know it's a clubbing area).

Oktoberfest is pretty good. They do German dishes; it's not particularly authentic, but it's very good and not Korean-ized. They brew their own beers--a pilsner, a dunkel, and a weiss, if I remember correctly--which are not great, but decent, and they're a hell of a lot better than the macrobrews. A bit more expensive than your typical pub, but it's worth checking out if you haven't yet.

I don't know of any American-style sports bars in Gangnam, sorry. If there are some, I'd like to hear about it as well.

You can make any bar in Gangnam an American-style sports bar by bringing Americans to it. Many bars show sports on Korean TV though they are Korean sports.

I personally like going to Woodstock for listening to classic rock and pop. There are two Woodstocks in Gangnam but this is the one I go to.

The German Pork Knuckle at Oktoberfest is pretty tasty. Its expensive, but its great if you have like 3-4 people wanting to snack on somethihng while drinking beer.

I recently heard about one that is going to be opening in Gangnam this month called the Whiskey Weasel. Anyone else heard about it or have any info as to when or where it'll be?

That is known as squaters logic. Worked great during colonization, but filling a bar full of expats doesn't make it an expat bar. It makes it a korean bar that expats go to. Food, ambiance, entertainment, etc.

So you're saying only a Korean business can afford rent there? Not likely.

Sigh..... Let me break it down for you.

Foreigners can not get business loans. So, unless you are sitting on at least $500,000 to open a bar in Gangnam, or have partners willing to fork over that money, your bar is not going to get off the ground.

Next, foreigners don't go out to Gangnam. Your customers will have to foreigners that live near there, or Koreans. Without customers, your business can't make money.

Rent in Gangnam is no joke. You will not be able to cover your overhead and your expenses charging 2500won for a Cass. You will have to price your drinks high, which will drive away the foreigners.

Lastly, Gangnam does not appeal to foreigners. Its expensive. Its damn near impossible to get a taxi. And once again, its expensive.

Also, the main Gangnam strip is notorious for shops catering to "Westerners" coming and going. I remember last year there was a place called Georgia Wings that only lasted a few months.
