A friend of mine who quit Kyung Hee Seoul about five months ago got a text message on his phone last week asking him if he was going to make his scheduled appearance to help students at the English lab on Wednesday. He had to call the program director and tell him he no longer worked there.
This is the same admin where the person in charge of the English teachers was always late to meetings. Another person would start the meetings and give info that was wrong, then the "late leader" would come and change the info, which would likely be changed again at the next meeting.
And it's the same admin that put someone to teach a course, only to find out a month later that he hadn't been told he was team-teaching class with a Korean professor and he had yet to see half of his students.
And it's the same place where vacation pay hasn't been paid to foreign teachers like my friend who quit only after finishing his work for the semester under difficult circumstances (a death in the family).
I think we've all read about what's happening at Yonsei.
It's a shame that some of the bigger universities seem mismanaged and are basically turning into hogwans. |

Some "hagwons," private learning institutes, are selling resumes to students, who are searching for ways to gain an advantage in the fiercely competitive race for college admission, Yonhap reported yesterday.

One more thing I need to mention. When the guy didn't get his July pay at the KHU Language Center that the KHU personnel had promised him, he called his supervisor to tell her he had no way to buy groceries for his wife and two-year-old daughter. Her answer was that she was too busy planning for a vacation to the Philippines and to ask somebody else for help. She never replied again after that. Talk about heartless. He made it through the difficult summer borrowing from his family and using his credit cards, but this kind of heartless B.S. is what gives Korea a bad name in ESL circles. |

That's disgusting. First he's denied his pay, then is told, "So sorry, I'm going to the Phillipines, can't help you, bye." What the heck?
I hope she gets stuck in the Phillipines or some other place on "vacation" with no money, and people say, "So sorry, can't help you, I'm going to Korea on vacation, bye."
Unbelievable!
So where is your friend now? I hope he'd gotten himself a better job! |

He's got another job, but the lies of the Kyung Hee language center office personnel set him back a few months financially and really put a strain on his personal life. Not one soul at KHU ever bothered to help, even to answer an e-mail. And all this time the poor guy's dealing with the death of his brother. They seem to like to just sweep things under the carpet and hope they will go away. |
