first I got this high mart leaflet in the mail.. and they had 42" pdps for 1.5 million.. I was DAMN!! the 50" was 3.5

so I decided to check out Enuri.com
and man

http://www.enuri.com/view/List.jsp?cate=0201

2.5 for a 50" PDP
I rememeber last year you couldnt find one for under 4 million!!

this is AWESOME!!

the time is now to buy that huge tv....

you think the prices will come down anymore?
why are they becoming so cheap now?
are we just seeing the old models slash in price.. while the new released ones are high 3 million..

Prices will come down more, it's a question of when, not if. The thing to do is decide how much you're willing to spend, get as much as you can for that amount of money. And then of course, you're going to want to bury your head in the sand for the next several months so you don't see the better and cheaper TVs that inevitably come along.

Oh, and the mandatory disclaimer: Why get a 50 inch TV for 3 million when you can get a 100 inch display from a projector for half that? (Much less than half in America.)

a projector will have crap video quality compared to any tv, that's why. Washed out colors, pixely, grainy, projectors are okay, but a real tv kicks ass.

Well...I'd guess you haven't seen a great projector then. I'm not talking about those light cannons most businesses have. I'm talking about a projector specifically designed for home theater.

Edit: Check these "washed out, pixely, grainy" screenshots.

The first 3 are from an Optoma H31, a very reasonably priced projector, from a forum I frequent. The last is from my projector, from a snapshot I took.

Not true... My friend back in Canada has this amazing projector, top of the line, and it displays pictures like the ones above. I think it is comparable to the best TVs but for a fraction of the price for what you get. Only problem is the room needs to be dark and if you stand up, well, you see a shadow. But it's a much better experience for movie watching, maybe not great for watching the news.

Optoma H31 Home Theater Projector Specifications. 850 ANSI lumens, 3000:1 contrast, native 16:9 widescreen format, 854x480 resolution DLP chip with a 4x speed, six-segment color wheel.

I dont know much about this stuff.. but..

when it says.. 3000:1 contrast.. the higher the better right?

most pdp are now at 10000:1 3x better?? I dont know..
is the contrast ratio really important for viewing pleasure?

854x480 resolution?? is that really good?

sure size matters when watching movies.. without a doubt..
but.. contrast, resolution is also important..
what do these things mean..? and how important are they??
cheers.

The Panasonic AX100U now that looks UNREAL!!!

Exactly. You need to have perfect condistions in your room to get that perfect picture from a projection TV. Why pay all that money for something that you need to think about so much to use?

.. Point projector at wall, turn off lights, sit down.

Am I missing something here ? or does that require a great amount of thinking ?

I can only imagine though that the sound and picture from a 50inch TV would be alot better than from a projector. Of course on the other hand, if you can plug your projector into a worthy sound system, the giant screen would be XXXcellent for movies ...

What if you wanted to eat a pizza while you watched TV? You'd have to eat in the dark.

Also, do these projectors have remote controls?
